Decking FAQ's

Q:  Do I need any special tools to install Brite Decking?
A:  No special tools are required, standard wood working tools work well.

Q:  What is the decking made of?
A:  Brite Decking is manufactured from virgin HDPE (high density polyethylene) and recycled wood fiber along with mold and mildew inhibitors.

Q:  How many colors are available?
A:  Brite Decking is available in 5 colors, Cedar Tone, Gray, Natural, Redwood and Chestnut.

Q:  What do I build my structure with?
A:  The structure under the deck is built using traditional methods, most commonly pressure treated lumber is used for the framing and supports.  Your local building code will dictate whether your joists should be 2x8’s, 2x10’s, etc.

Q:  How much more does composite cost compared with pressure treated or cedar?
A:  To calculate how long it will take to pay back your composite deck, simply fill in the data in the white boxes of the spreadsheet attached.

Q:  What spacing is required for my joists?
A:  The joists are to be spaced no further than 16” on centre for standard installations and 12” on centre for diagonal installations (45degree). All stairs should be built 12” on centre.  Always check your local building code first, just to make sure.

Q:  What lengths are available?
A:  Deck boards are available in 8’, 12’, 16’ and 20’ lengths, all trim pieces are available in 12’ lengths only.

Q:  Can I paint or stain my decking?
A:  No, paint and stain will not absorb into the decking and will continue to peel off.

Q:  Can I install Brite Decking myself?
A:  Brite Decking is one of the easiest materials to install, using our patented hidden fastener systems ensures proper spacing and alignment during installation.

Q:  How do I clean my deck?
A:  The simplest method is to wash the deck with a mild soap and water, power washing offers excellent results as well.
